Ann Arborland"Ann Arborland" is a short film I directed this winter for the student dilm organization M-agination FIlms.
The movie is a parody of "hipster" culture, based on a scene from the television show "Portlandia." In the movie - written by my friends Grace Hawkins and Reid Walborn and produced by Anna Baumgarten, two hipsters sit down for coffee, and engage in a conversation about their past exploits and non-mainstream opinions. Meanwhile, rival hipster H enters to order a meal, but is taken aback when all of his requests are denied by the friendly barista. Casting Call"Casting Call" is a short play I wrote and directed for the RC Players, a student theatre organization.
The play tells the story of a fictional audition. Judd Apatow, director of hits such as "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Funny People," is writing a new romantic comedy and wants to find his lead actor and actress. With the help of old friends Paul Rudd and Kristen Bell, he auditions a team of stalwarts (Robert De Niro, Christian Bale, WIll Ferrell, Al Pacino, Lindsay Lohan, Meryl Streep, Molly Ringwald, John Belushi, Katie Holmes, and Penelope Cruz) who all manage to screw it up somehow, causing Judd Apatow to storm out of the theater. Running Time: 12:38 480p SD (c) 2012 FourFour Pictures |
Aftermath"Aftermath" is the movie sequel to Casting Cal. It is half-documentary, elaborating on the events of the audition, and half-narrative, following Judd Apatow's thoughts as he attempts to move on.
In the hours following his ill-fated audition, Judd Apatow sits in his office and gives his thoughts on what happened that evening. Meanwhile, the actors are tracked down in and around the audition site, and give their own, different interpretations of Apatow's breakdown, as well as insight into their own career paths. In addition to writing and directing, I also narrate the movie. Running Time: 20:09 720p HD (c) 2012 FourFour Pictures |

Sleepover"Sleepover" was a collaboration with my friend Grace Hawkins. Another play I directed for the RC Players, Grace and I co-wrote the script with the intention of making a fun-for-all-ages, old school comedy that didn't rely on college-age humor.
Greg, a 13-year-old boy, is tasked with delivering a break-up note from Ryan to his girlfriend Katie. When he finds Katie at Hannah's slumber party, Greg is snowed in and forced to hide from Hannah's overprotective father. In the meantime, he must face grilling from tough gal Jo, while trying to help Katie get over Ryan. Running Time: 14:18 720p HD (c) 2012 FourFour Pictures |
In Plain Cite"In Plain Cite" marked my return to acting after a couple years focusing solely on writing and directing. It was written and directed by my friend Sarah Bichsel as a play for the RC Players.
In it, I play Officer Ken Randalls of the MLA - the Modern Law Association (but a parody of the Modern Language Association) - who shows up at a college party to investigate a lack of proper citation during a conversation. After harassing the suspected plagiarist, my partner and I leave, only to find trouble in the form of Mary, a girl caught in the act of quoting the Lord himself without citing it.
